  24. Course Description: This course builds on the RN’s previous knowledge and clinical expertise in developing health and physical assessment skills. The emphasis is on the analysis and synthesis of health assessment data as a basis for patient teaching.

    The Institute of Medicine's statement on the Future of Nursing has noted that:

    "Nurses should achieve higher levels of education and training through an improved education system that promotes seamless academic progression"

    This course enhances the registered nurses knowledge and skill in the foundation of the nursing process, health assessment. The course also prepares students for a seamless transition into the graduate program in nursing for an advanced health assessment course.

  34. Student Expectations/Requirements and Grading Policy: Grades will be assigned in accordance with the USF College of Nursing grading scale and will be based on the scored achieved on exams given throughout the semester.

    Student Expectations:

    Class participation is expected weekly.

    Class materials in modules are to be viewed by students; student participation is recorded in the Canvas system and will be monitored by faculty.

    It is expected that the learners will demonstrate initiative in seeking learning experiences that will enable them to achieve the course objectives. This includes reviewing all modules, reading required readings, and completing all requirements by the assigned dates.

    Each student is responsible for notifying faculty if unable to meet any of these requirements.

    Students enrolled in web-based classes must check in by Friday at 5 pm in the first week of the semester. Failure to do so will result in the student being dropped from the class.

    Incomplete Policy:

    Incomplete (I)

    Definition: An Incomplete grade (“I”) is exceptional and granted at the instructor’s discretion only when students are unable to complete course requirements due to illness or other circumstances beyond their control.

    This applies to all gradable courses, including pass/fail (S/U).

    Students may only be eligible for an “I” when:

    • majority of the student’s work for a course has been completed before the end of the semester

    • the work that has been completed must be qualitatively satisfactory

    • the student has requested consideration for an “I” grade as soon as possible but no later than the last day of finals week.

    Withdrawal Policy (approved by CON Faculty Council 12/15/06; revised 1/19/07): Withdrawals are limited to 1 per course, with a limit of 2 per undergraduate or graduate program. Withdrawals are defined as officially withdrawing from any class after the Drop/Add period and before the final Withdrawal date as outlined in the Academic Calendar. Any student withdrawing in excess of stated policy may be dismissed from the College of Nursing unless the College of Nursing has pre-approved a documented Medical and/or Emergency situation.

Attendance Policy: Course Attendance at First Class Meeting – Policy for Graduate Students: For structured courses, 6000 and above, the College/Campus Dean will set the first-day class attendance requirement. Check with the College for specific information. This policy is not applicable to courses in the following categories: Educational Outreach, Open University (TV), FEEDS Program, Community Experiential Learning (CEL), Cooperative Education Training, and courses that do not have regularly scheduled meeting days/times (such as, directed reading/research or study, individual research, thesis, dissertation, internship, practica, etc.).     In the event of an emergency, it may be necessary for USF to suspend normal operations.   37. Policy on Make-up Work: If there is any reason that an assignment cannot be posted by the due date the student must

    contact the faculty member in advance of the due date and a submission plan will be made.

    Please note that any assignment not submitted by the due date without prior authorization of the faculty will receive a 10% grade reduction only if the student contacts the faculty by email

    regarding the late submission.

    Late assignments beyond 2 weeks without prior authorization will be reduced by 50%, only if the student contacts the faculty by email regarding the late submission.

    Any assignment not submitted by the end of the semester (by July 18th) will

    receive a grade of zero and will be factored into the student's final course grade accordingly.

    If there is an unanticipated emergency that impedes submitting an assignment on the due date,

    the student must notify the faculty member as soon as possible as to when the assignment

    will be submitted, documentation may be requested.
