  24. Course Description: The purpose of this course is to offer an overview of the common pharmacological therapies used to treat common arrhythmia’s seen in practice: Atrial Fibrillation, Atrial Flutter, Sinus Tachycardia, and Sinus Bradycardia.

There needs to be increased education on cardiac arrhythmia medications because they are essential for any nurse to understand for the care of patients on telemetry at high risk for cardiac events .

  29. Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

    1. Identify Atrial Fibrillation, Atrial Flutter, Sinus Tachycardia, and Sinus Bradycardia on a rhythm strip.

    2. Verbalize appropriate nursing care for the patient receiving anticoagulants.

    3. Discuss initial management of a patient with Atrial Fibrillation with a rapid ventricular rate.

    4. Effectively manage the care of a patient with an arrhythmia receiving pharmacological therapy.

    1. General principles of cardiac arrhythmias and pharmacological management.

    2. Interpretation of EKG Rhythm strips for Atrial Fibrillation, Atrial Flutter, Sinus Tachycardia, and Sinus Bradycardia.

    3. Cardiac Arrhythmia drug choices for selected rhythms.

    4. Pharmacotherapeutic problem solving for common cardiac arrhythmias including drug administration and monitoring for therapeutic responses.

    5. Adverse drug reactions and appropriate interventions
