    1. Identify common concepts in laboratory and other diagnostic studies including analytical and statistical components, technical concerns, and methodology

    2. Select appropriate laboratory and other diagnostic studies relevant to the evaluation of the patient’s health situation with consideration to analytical and statistical components, technical concerns, and methodology.

    3. Discuss results obtained from the laboratory and other diagnostic studies.

    4. Conduct a basic ultrasound for amniotic fluid index, estimated fetal weight, placentation, bi-paretal diameters, and biophysical profile.

    5. Interpretation of pertinent work-up, and documentation for dysfunctional uterine bleeding.

    6. Identify work-up for sexual dysfunction.

    7. Demonstrate endometrial biopsy.

    8. Identify indications and interventions associated with antenatal fetal surveillance.

    9. Demonstrate intrauterine device placement and removal.

    10. Demonstrate word catheter placement, marsupialization of Bartholins Cyst, and indicated suturing.

    11. Identify surgical instruments necessary for cesarean section and surgical management of ectopic pregnancy.

    12. Demonstrate surgical assist steps using simulation model.

  30. Learning Outcomes: 1. Demonstrate competency of advanced skills within the simulation lab in preparation for Phase I-III for care of women across the lifespan.

    2. Show professionalism through advanced nurse practitioner documentation of procedures within the Military Health System (MHS) Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

    3. Develop therapeutic relationships and partnerships with patients and other professionals.

  31. Major Topics: Within the care of women, development of ultrasound skills for evaluating first trimester pregnancy, ectopic pregnancy, and gynecologic needs will be introduced. Additional ultrasound skills for amniotic fluid index (AFI), estimating fetal weights (EFW), placentation, and bi-parietal diameters (BPD), biophysical profiles (BPP) will be surveyed. Surgical assisting for cesarean sections and laparoscopic procedures in the simulation lab will be introduced for follow-up demonstration in Phase I-III with competency for credentialing. Procedures include endometrial biopsy, intrauterine device placement and removal, word catheter placement, and external cephalic version (ECV). Case studies reviewing management of dysfunctional uterine bleeding, and sexual dysfunction, antenatal fetal surveillance will be included.
