  24. Course Description: This course focuses on application of holistic nursing concepts and principles related to care of a group of patients with potentially life threatening problems. Clinical experiences may take place in hospitals or a variety of community settings.

  26. What is the need or demand for this course? (Indicate if this course is part of a required sequence in the major.) What other programs would this course service? The senior practicum introduces the student nurse to the realism of nursing practice, and the responsibilities that come with the everyday functions of the RN. This class gives the student nurse the opportunity to continue using his or her critical thinking skills, evidence-based practice, and increased knowledge of EMR and the universal implications of the use in this media. Informatics, EBP, HCAPS are all part of the modern day nurse and the knowledge gained are incorporated into the RN’s practice.

  29. Objectives: At the conclusion of this course students will be able to:

    1. Demonstrate competencies of the associate degree graduate nurse.

    2. Develop and use critical thinking skills.

    3. Take on the role of the primary nurse for his or her patients.

    4. Develop use of SBAR, and use when reporting to providers and

    colleagues.

    5. Complete medication administration and all aspects of client safety.

    6. Complete 120 clinical hours over three weeks, by matching the

    schedule of his or her preceptor.

Attendance Policy: Course Attendance at First Class Meeting – Policy for Graduate Students: For structured courses, 6000 and above, the College/Campus Dean will set the first-day class attendance requirement.
