  24. Course Description: This course focuses on the critical care patient, evidenced based care of, and competencies needed to provide care for the critically ill patient.

  26. What is the need or demand for this course? (Indicate if this course is part of a required sequence in the major.) What other programs would this course service? Nurses who complete this course will have the gain of being prepared to work critical care. USF will be able to market on this course to appeal to local acute care facilities. Local nurses not currently enrolled at the university would be interested in the course for the career advancement, therefore bringing in an increase in revenue for the university. Students will be advanced in evidenced based care and competent in patient care in the critical care setting. This will lead to an advantage in the job market in area critical area settings.

    1. Describe the typical critical care environment and patient.

    2. Examine the role of the critical care nurse.

  30. Learning Outcomes: At the conclusion of this course the nurse/student will be able to :

    • Provide care to a patient in a typical critical care setting.

    • Implement appropriate interventions for the critical care patient.

    • Perform a thorough assessment of the critical care patient.
