  24. Course Description: A course designed to familiarize students with basic microeconomics principles and how they apply to individuals and firms.

This course is needed by all USFSP MBA students who do not have an academic background in business or whose undergraduate courses in economics were taken more than 7 years before entering the MBA program.

  29. Objectives: Upon completion of this course, students will understand fundamental micro-economics principles and concepts, having the ability to identify and apply them in subsequent MBA coursework.
  30. Learning Outcomes: At the end of this course the student should be able to:

    1. Understand the concepts of marginal revenue and marginal cost

    2. Comprehend how equilibrium price and output results from perfect competition.

    3. Understand how firms maximize profits in various industry models

    4. Comprehend the basics of the demand and supply of labor in different markets.

    5. Understand the concepts of opportunity cost and relevant costing.

  34. Student Expectations/Requirements and Grading Policy: There are two main components of this course: 1) two assignments, and 2) a final exam. Their contribution to the overall final grade is as follows:

    1. Two Assignments: 65 percent

    2. Final Exam: 35 percent

    Each student must minimally obtain a 70 percent overall percentage grade to pass the course. NOTE: In calculating the grade for the two assignments, the instructor will take the sum of points obtained on both assignments and divide by the total points possible.

  36. Attendance Policy: No first class attendance policy due to the nature of this course. Students can begin the class at any time. There are no scheduled exams. Students take the exams according to their own schedules. The schedule for the course is not part of the regular semester, so there are no religious conflicts. Students can alter when they take the online exams based on their own personal needs.

    There is no time limit as when the student must complete this course. Students can take as long as they want, even in excess of a year or more, to complete the exams. Thus, there will be no conflict with religious holidays as the date a student takes an exam, as well as when they can finish the course, is entirely at their own discretion.
