Why did you choose USF?
USF's Instructional Technology in the
College of Education
is on the cutting edge of educational technology
research and software/application development.
What is your area of research/interest?
Developing computer-based learning applications for
the
Department of Education
with emphasizes on Limited English Proficient (LEP)
student populations. Also in the implementation
pop-culture in interactive media development and the
development of learning modules.
In 5 years what do you hope to be doing?
Filming digital videography for distance learning,
developing computer animation and implementing film
into interactive web-based learning media as well as
developing learning applications.
If you had the time or the money—which charity or
volunteer effort would you support? Do you volunteer
now—if so with who?
I would like to have my own
Urban Technology Center
in association with the
Carl Sagan Academy.
Right now, I am a board member of the charter school
and teach the kids technology. My goal is to expand
our efforts and add a tech center that services
pregnant teens who are at-risk of dropping out of
school and teach them technology to prepare them for
career in the industry.
Degree Seeking: Masters or Doctoral or
Specialists?
Right now, I am categorized as a Specialist moving
into the Ph.D. program next semester. I received my
Master's degree in I.T. this past semester in
addition to a three Graduate Certificate in
Instructional Technology:
MultiMedia,
School Networks,
Web Design.
Biography:
Originally, I am from New Haven, CT. My parents were
born and raised in Puerto Rico. I began my
educational career at USF in 1995 pursuing a Dual
Bachelor's in Psychology and Sociology. Currently, I
am pursuing a Ph.D. in
Instructional Technology
and am the president of the
Instructional Technology
Student Association (ITSA). In 2000, when
I graduated with my BA, I launched my own company
named,
Gradual Development, LLC.
Through the company, I began my computer consulting
career and developed my skills in technology.
Currently, I began my own film production company,
Black Flash Films
and have been developing screenplays, short films
and movies, which my team is submitting to film
festivals and competitions. I am also developing a
software application to help ESOL students prepare
for the
Florida Comprehensive
Assessment Test
(FCAT). We put a team of experts together in
the fields of education, technology, research,
statistics, and measurement and have influenced
board members in the charter school system to
develop an innovative software solution that assists
both the students and teachers with increasing
performance on this high-stakes test.
