Step 1 - Pre-Proposal / Letter of Intent Process
1.  Contact the Graduate School for advising
2.  Complete New Program Routing Form

3.  Submit for dept and college review
4.  Submit Pre-Proposal and Letter of Intent from College Dean
       to Graduate School for GECC/Roundtable Review
(see deadline)
5.  If approved at Roundtable, proceed with developing the Full
       Proposal
 
 
Step 2 - Roundtable/GECC -
 
The preproposal will be presented at a Roundtable of the Graduate Executive Coordinating Committee (GECC).  The meeting schedule will be confirmed after submission.

            

Step 3 - Full Proposal Development
  • Complete the New Program Routing Form.
  • If you need a copy of the form in Word, contact chinescobb@grad.usf.edu
  • Go to the New Degree Format Policy and Procedure webpage and follow the format to develop the full proposal
  • Complete the Graduate Catalog Template (copy and paste into a new document and complete the information)
  • Submit Proposal Packet for dept and college review
  • Submit Proposal Packet to Graduate School for Graduate Council Curriculum Committee Review
  • Refer to Graduate Council Website for meeting dates, etc.
  • If a doctoral program, provide the names of three potential external consultants who could do the external review; this takes place between the Curriculum Committee Review and Full Council approval.
  • If approved by Graduate Council, it moves forward for AAMC, ACE, BOT, and BOG (if applicable) approval
 
 
 
 
Step 4 - Implementation  
Once approved by the BOT/BOG (if applicable), the program will be placed on the SUS Inventory and Registrar's list of programs.  It will be assigned a code for BANNER and will be added to the Graduate Catalog in the next publication cycle.  

TIPS

  • Complete all requested information
  • Have documentation for data sources
  • Review peer programs nationally and provide information on whether the proposed program supports or differs from national trends in the discipline
  • Investigate interdisciplinary opportunities with existing programs
  • Obtain concurrence from any relevant programs/colleges
  • If pursuing an interdisciplinary initiative, include all aspects where the interdisciplinary actions occur (ex: dissertation committee, research, faculty teaching, etc.)
  • Be clear on what is unique about the proposed program - why should this be approved?
  • What will graduates of this program be able to do?  Include market trends
  • Be clear about the degree requirements and total hours required
