ETD Format Requirements and Resources
The submission for the format check is no longer required. However, students are still responsible for meeting all the format requirements as outlined by the Graduate School below. The Graduate School does not specify a specific structure or organization for the main body of the manuscript (such as the content, number of chapters, chapter organization, etc.). However, individual Graduate Programs may require a specific style (i.e. APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.), set forth by their program throughout the manuscript. The table below outlines the sections of the manuscript and also the page numbering requirements.

The following links provide information on ETD formatting requirements as set forth by the Graduate School. Each link contains a PDF document that outlines the required formatting, includes examples of each section, provides explanations of how to use and set up the formatting functions in Microsoft Word, and a checklist that can be used to evaluate each section of the manuscript. To download a particular section of the requirements click on the appropriate title below. To download a PDF containing all Graduate School requirements and checklists click here.
